The beautiful village of Deir Ballut was the site of the winter 2003/2004 peace camp against the wall. Palestinians, Israelis, and Internationals camped out in a half-built school with a demolition order, because it was on the path of the wall. The camp both increased media coverage of the injustice caused by the wall construction in the area, and provided an opportunity for activists and locals to talk and strategize. The camp lasted 2 weeks. Actions included several demonstrations, workshops for local woman, workshops in non-violence, tree-planting, and creative children's art against the occupation. Since the camp left, Deir Ballut has gone back to being a regular Palestinian village, paralyzed by checkpoints and roadblocks and soon, the wall.
