Ma'ale Adumim is the largest Israeli settlement in the West Bank. East of Jerusalem, the settlement cuts deeply into the West Bank, in effect splitting it into two. Israel has redrawn the Jerusalem municipality boarders to encompass the enormous mass land and population of Ma'ale Adumim, while cutting out the Palestinian population of the holy city, thereby maximizing Jews and minimizing Palestinians in Jerusalem.

Ma'ale Adumim has a residential, suburban feel, disconnected from the reality that it is built on internationally-recognized Palestinian land. Jewish Israelis are offered economic incentives to move to the settlement, including subsidized education, transport, and mortgages.
